Instead of White Men Can't Jump, it's Nobody Can't Shut the Hell Up.
The nonstop yip-yapping is annoying to bear. I can't decide who plays a worse character: Woody Harrelson
or Rosie Perez. However, the acting is fine. Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes have good chemistry. I wish the
movie was all about them and nobody else. They, mostly Wesley Snipes, have memorable moments. The basketball
scenes aren't bad, either.
The film tries to be a comedy, but it feels more like a drama piece of how Billy Hoyle can't stop being a fuck-up.
There are a couple of false endings when I thought one had been arrived at after the basketball tournament with
Rosie Perez's character finally getting the shot to be on Jeopardy! By the way, one of the opponents is
played by Duane Martin, and he'll have his own basketball movie:
Above the Rim.
All in all, Nobody Can't Shut the Hell Up is what has been the whole time.
2/26:
All right, White Men Can't Jump isn't bad this time around, but everybody sure talks a lot of shit and
can't shut up for a minute.
The best performance goes to Wesley Snipes. He could play, look the part, talk trash, and be cool. On the other
hand, Woody Harrelson isn't bad. They'll reteam for more arguments in
Money Train. But the most annoying performance award has to go to Rosie
Perez. Billy Hoyle is better off after she decided to break it off at the end. Who wants
to put up with her bullshit logic? She probably can't break 300 on the math portion of SAT.
All in all, White Men Can't Jump makes trash talking on court an art form.
