People making fun of Cannon?
That's a joke. I liked their films, especially during the 80's. Come on, they were better and more creative
than lot of the boring rubbish that were made by MGM, Universal, and 20th Century Fox, among others. I simply
wanted to be entertained. The bottom line is: Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus absolutely delivered.
Cannon was responsible for starting the trend of Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Ninja films. Where
would cinema be without Joe, Death Wish 3,
That Championship Season, Cobra,
Breakin', Runaway Train,
Masters of the Universe,
Over the Top, Missing in Action,
Street Smart, Barfly, and
Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo?
Those who worked for Cannon beg to differ, so it's interesting to hear their stories in
Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films. Does this mean that Menahem Golan and Yoram
Globus made works of junk? Well, yeah...if you want to think about
Invasion U.S.A., Lifeforce,
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. But that's just...nitpicking.
All in all, Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus deserved honorary Oscars for shaking things up in cinema during
the 80's.
