Where Sleeping Dogs Lie is an apt title because all one has to do is leave the film alone.
The cast looks strong on paper: Dylan McDermott, Tom Sizemore, and Sharon Stone. But nothing ever happens.
The plot barely moves an inch, thanks to the most mediocre script imaginable. One sign of a cheap film is that
it pretty much takes place in a house.
Dylan McDermott talks to himself...a lot. Then, Tom Sizemore shows up, and his presence around the house
continues to be weird that I'm able to figure out his character's purpose before the revelation comes: he's the
murderer the author is unknowingly writing about. I'm only surprised that they didn't kiss or have sex after
being fascinated with each other for a long while.
In the meantime, Sharon Stone serves no purpose but to be eye candy for ten minutes maximum. I wonder if this
is the film that finally caught the attention of some, forcing them to say, "Hey, you know what? She's perfect
for the role of Catherine Tramell." I say this because Sharon Stone became an overnight star in her next film:
Basic Instinct.
All in all, Where Sleeping Dogs Lie is a waste of time.
