The Paper (1994)

The Paper is a ridiculously overdone play-within-film about the newspaper industry.
Granted, the cast is stunning: Michael Keaton, Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Marisa Tomei, Randy Quaid, Jason
Robards, and Jason Alexander. That's four Oscar wins among twenty-three nominations, but none of them turns
in a great performance. They all, more or less, overact.
Can you believe the size of the belly on Marisa Tomei? That's crazy. She never had kids of her own, so it was
faked for the film. Of course, somebody has to yell the most clichéd line of all time in the newspaper
business: "Stop the presses!"
All in all, although The Paper is energetic, The Front Page,
most especially the Billy Wilder's version, has already covered everything.
