The Glimmer Man works because I am a fan of Steven Seagal.
Thanks to John Gray's direction, there are plenty of skull-bashing, bone-breaking scenes that have made Steven
Seagal a unique, exciting star who stood apart from the pack of action stars during the 90's.
One marked improvement is Steven Seagal's sense of humor. He's actually a funny guy. Meanwhile, his co-star
Keenen Ivory Wayans is okay for the most part. The black-white buddy setup is formulaic as it's been done
countless times such as 48 Hrs.,
Beverly Hills Cop, and
Lethal Weapon.
All in all, I kept my expectations low prior to seeing The Glimmer Man and got what I wanted: entertainment.
10/25:
First, it was Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans in The Last Boy Scout;
now, Steven Seagal and Keenan Ivory Wayans get their chance in The Glimmer Man.
The story is straightforward. It's a fast-paced movie. Sure, there's an absurd moment here and there but
nothing biggie. Just about all of the hallmarks from the first four films of Steven Seagal's career are
incorporated into The Glimmer Man. Even better, he's quite funny.
On the other hand, Keenan Ivory Wayans is fair and does his part to help out but gets outdone by Steven
Seagal in the comedy department. A nice bonus is the inclusion of Brian Cox. I didn't think he would go for
this sort of thing considering he's a strong Scottish actor of Shakespearean pedigree.
All in all, people who hate Steven Seagal are missing out a lot by refusing to see some of his films.
