From Tony Manero to Vincent Vega to...Moose?
I can't believe the negative reviews for The Fanatic. Sure, there have been others of the stalking
genre: The Fan, The King of Comedy,
Misery, and The Fan, but it's not a boring movie by any means. Fred
Durst of Limp Bizkit says this is what happened to him personally with the real stalker wearing the same
exact clothes as Moose.
This is John Travolta at his best. He stretches himself like never before. It's good selection for him,
acting-wise, right down to his weird hairdo. Some reviewers said Moose was autistic. I think that's a correct
assessment because of his rocking head when he's stressed out and the lack of proper social behavior which
may have been how John Travolta's son Jett acted while he was alive.
Hunter Dunbar, played by Devon Sawa, should've handled the situation better by being nice at first. Instead,
he triggered Moose's anger from the get-go. This must not be a new thing for him if he has been a big celebrity
for so long. If that's the case, his property needs real security. On the other hand, Ana Golja isn't bad as
Leah, but why is she friends with Moose? The only aspect that needs improvement is the lighting; it's too dark.
All in all, The Fanatic is an impressive piece of work, thanks to John Travolta's one-of-a-kind
performance.
