6/26: Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat?

That's easy: first one as the worse movie based on a video game. What was Raul Julia thinking? It would be the final work of his career before succumbing to a stroke due to complications of stomach cancer. Had it been Addams Family Values, I would've understood.

As I've played the video game before, the format is supposed to be one-on-one, but nearly nothing like that occurs in the film. Instead, it's blown up as a story that's on the same level as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. To be engaged in a gunfight, Balrog brings boxing gloves. Talk about awkward.

Jean-Claude Van Damme....what can I say? Thanks to cocaine addiction, his A-list career is officially over, and it's only 1994. As for the rest of the cast, it's hard to believe they participated such as Roshan Seth, Simon Callow, and Wes Studi. Obviously, this is strictly cash grab for all involved. The overstuffed action is so boring that I can hardly make sense of anything.

All in all, I must laugh when director-writer Steven E. de Souza proclaimed about not wanting to make a generic martial arts movie by turning Street Fighter into a hybrid among Star Wars, James Bond, and war.
