5/25: When I saw Scary Movie, I thought it was the end of cinema.

My prediction turned out to be correct, and here we are twenty-five years later. At the time, it made a huge jump in terms of sex jokes. They're still crass and entirely tasteless. How about that scene when a penis went through Shawn Wayans' ears? It'll never be unseen.

When it comes to parody films in the spirit of Airplane! and The Naked Gun, Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th is the proper choice for the slasher genre. But Scary Movie goes off the rails big time and is never once funny. Oddly, the longer the show went on, the more I felt Scream being enough. Hence, I don't get the rehash of the same story to death.

All in all, Scary Movie is an NC-17 picture if I've ever seen one, rendering the motion picture ratings system a complete joke.
