Olympus
2/26: Give me one reason why I should care about politicians and the like after their corrupted lives have been endangered.

While watching Olympus Has Fallen, I repeatedly said, "Don't care." The White House has been taken over? Good. That should teach them after invading foreign countries and killing leaders in the past if their international policy wouldn't be followed. The high amount of jingoism at the end is nauseating.

Why did I give the film a '6'? Reminding me of Die Hard, solid acting sustains the show throughout. I had never heard of Gerard Butler before; he has done all right, but depth isn't going to be reached with this guy. Rick Yune isn't bad for a villain who will mean anything he says. Another positive is realistic violence in many situations. Had the film been done in the 90's and before, it would've been highly restrained.

However, the bigger the action is or the more elaborate the scene is, the more fake it looks. That has been a downer from start to finish. Die Hard is unbeatable in this department because real explosives were used. How about the beginning when the President's wife died in a car accident? Memo to everybody involved: drive slower and keep the vehicles apart by at least two car lengths, especially in adverse weather.

All in all, the situation as shown in Olympus Has Fallen may happen one day, but it carries no meaning for me.
