Never Let Go (1960)

8/26: The genesis of Never Let Go is John Guillermin's car that got stolen.

Yet while watching the film, I couldn't help but think of Ladri di biciclette. Richard Todd is Lamberto Maggiorani. Instead of a kid in main supporting role, it's the wife. A new element comes into play: Lonnie Meadows who's wonderfully played by Peter Sellers in the first villainous role of his career which may have mirrored exactly how he was in real life.

For the most part, because of Richard Todd who's bland, it's a weak movie, but Peter Sellers consistently makes it better by being different, hence my reluctant rating of '7'. He's quite mean and controlling to everybody, effectively setting up the noir atmosphere. Some of his brutal actions are ahead of time for 1960, earning an X-certificate.

If there's a change that needs to be made, it's coming up with a different-looking person other than David Lodge. Sometimes, I couldn't tell the difference between him and Peter Sellers due to their mustaches and hairstyles. Other than that, I'm surprised at the wife for threatening to leave her husband. Didn't she understand any part of their marriage vows?

All in all, the only reason to see Never Let Go is Peter Sellers.
