Some have said Amadeus is boring. Some have said Amadeus is too long. And some have said
Amadeus is nothing more than the music. But they all miss out the masterpiece in Amadeus. It's
unbelievable watching F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce perform at their absolute best, and they'll be remembered
forever for this film. The writing is first-rate. So are the interior set decoration, costumes, and cinematography.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is primarily a performance-driven film. There's no doubt that Jack
Nicholson and Louise Fletcher are iconic as Randle McMurphy and Nurse Ratched, respectively. As for the
supporting cast, it's impressive, considering the film was made in 1975. Everybody wasn't aware of who Danny
DeVito and Christopher Lloyd were at the time with both going on to achieve more fame in a TV show called
Taxi. Brad Dourif, Sydney Lassick, and Will Sampson are unforgettable.
A film about 1st Amendment rights, the real Larry Flynt can be seen in the first legal case by playing a judge.
In the meantime, the performances are well done. Woody Harrelson is great, giving me a hard time deciding whether
he was better in this or Natural Born Killers. Courtney Love got robbed of an Oscar nomination for Best
Supporting Actress. It's probably the only notable achievement of her career besides being married to Kurt
Cobain.
Hair is the emblematic musical film of the late 60's hippie movement. However, it's vastly different from
the 1968 play to the dismay of many. Perhaps there was incompatibility during the transition between these two
mediums. The cast is great. Treat Williams could sing and move well. It's among his two best performances with the
other being Prince of the City.
It's inevitable for Valmont to be compared with Dangerous Liaisons, and the remake somewhat
succeeds. There are plenty of good performances despite the significant changes in the plot. Newcomers Colin
Firth and Annette Bening stand out while Henry Thomas, Meg Tilly, and Fairuza Balk are decent as well.
