Amy Fisher...the Long Island Lolita.
No other female achieved the same level of notoriety during the 90's. Her story was all over the news for
years, and late night show talk hosts made fun of it, most especially Joey Buttafuoco because of his last
name, making it easy to mispronounce (see the episode entitled "Inappropriate" of NewsRadio for what
I mean).
There were three telefilms that came out in 1992 and 1993, and Lethal Lolita, aka
Amy Fisher: My Story, was the first. In fact, that was the only one I saw back then. I have to hand it
to Noelle Parker and Ed Marinaro for looking similar to Amy Fisher and Joey Buttafuoco, respectively. Their
acting is terrific as well.
Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction, and this is what happened in 1992, right down to how the shooting took
place. There was no reason for the 17-year-old Amy Fisher to murder Joey Buttafuoco's wife who had no
idea of what was going on the entire time. As a result, she served seven years in prison. Of course, Joey
Buttafuoco had to serve four months in prison for statutory rape after denying for so long that he had
sex with her (like anyone believes him).
As depicted in Lethal Lolita, it's not hard to understand why Amy Fisher ended up in porn. She also had
been sexually abused during childhood and was raped at 13. Joey Buttafuoco is nineteen years older than her.
His wife actually survived the shooting and is still alive, having written a book in 2009. They divorced
in 2003 after she realized he was a sociopath. Joey was the one who encouraged Amy to get a gun and kill her.
All in all, forget either version of Lolita; Lethal Lolita is the
real deal.
