You've got to love these pathetic old men being surrounded by top-flight models.
That's not the biggest reason why Lady in Cement received a rating of '3' from me. It's rather the
case that makes no sense. Tony Rome was so much better with Frank
Sinatra at his hard-boiled best. Here, he's just lazy, preferring to lie down. See the movie poster for
what I mean.
Raquel Welch? Sure, wake me up when she knows how to act or portray an alcoholic accurately. Ditto for Frank
Sinatra when it comes to actually scuba diving. How about that beehive hairdo of hers? I wonder if it's real.
Raquel Welch's character falls in love with Tony Rome? That's a laugh! In real life, they were approximately
25 years apart in age.
Another disappointment is the lack of location photography during the first half. That's what made
Tony Rome so good. Once the car chase was on, Miami began to open up,
giving more to the sequel. Unfortunately, the writing is awful on the neo-noir level, sinking it
for good.
All in all, Lady in Cement is another piss-poor 60's neo-noir that has no clue of what made
films noirs so great.
