Hair is the emblematic musical film of the late 60's hippie movement.
However, it's vastly different from the 1968 play to the dismay of many. Perhaps there was incompatibility during
the transition between these two mediums. I thought at first people were going to take off their clothes which
was the main reason why it's infamous in the first place. In the movie, Beverly D'Angelo is the only member of
the cast who does.
As plotless as Hair may be with shades of Horí, má panenko,
the switcheroo at the end is unexpected. It reminds me of what happened in
Tigerland except this time it was accidental. Ironically, Treat Williams
and Colin Farrell kind of look the same. Speaking of the former, I didn't know he could sing and move well.
It's among his two best performances with the other being
Prince of the City.
Smoking is cool because of the scene with Beverly D'Angelo and Nicholas Ray, famous for directing
Rebel Without a Cause, blowing rings to each other? Think again.
He was actually dying of lung cancer at the time and passed away in 1979.
All in all, given the generational themes, it's difficult to be negative about Hair.
