Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a weird title.
Nobody ever said it in the film. And what blondes? I saw only one. Anyway, everybody was lucky to have
Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell on board. If not for them, it's a total turkey. There's no
story, and everybody is stupid.
So, who's better? It's hard to say. Jane Russell was ahead most of the time. Then, Marilyn Monroe beat her
to the finish line by doing the most famous musical number of her career: "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend."
By the way, George Chakiris can be spotted on the left side of Marilyn Monroe at one point while she's
surrounded by men. Earlier, Jane Russell did fall into the pool by an accident but never broke her character.
The cinematography helps a lot. It's a rich-looking picture. If there's anything that deserves an Oscar
nomination, it's Best Costume Design. Then again, these two women would need at least fifteen pieces of
luggage apiece because they kept changing into new clothes between three and five times a day.
All in all, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is highly watchable because of Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell
showing off themselves in the glory of Technicolor.
