From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

8/26: Apart from ER, when I think of George Clooney, From Dusk Till Dawn first comes to my mind.

It's his best performance ever, not Out of Sight, Three Kings, or Syriana. Even his Caesar Cut haircut is very influential. He's never topped it by reverting to a Cary Grant look-alike with lots of cliches such as tilting his head before speaking. Becoming a boring mainstream star in high-profile films hurt him, too.

Another reason is the writing by Quentin Tarantino. It's so good that the crazy vampire stuff can be withstood. In fact, when I first saw the From Dusk Till Dawn in 1996, I thought it got weirdly sabotaged midway. Today, I'm okay with the change of scenery.

I like Robert Rodriquez's unique filmmaking style which takes place in Mexico with tons of action. It began with El Mariachi which became more refined in Desperado. Using familiar thespians from the second picture, From Dusk Till Dawn is quite toned down this time while leaning more toward macabre comedy situations.

All in all, From Dusk Till Dawn isn't for everybody, but it's actually well-made.
