Don't be fooled by the title Fathers' Day.
The placement of the apostrophe is correct as three fathers are looking for the same boy. It's just that the
mother lied to two of them about being the actual father, so time can be saved. The whole story
is based on a French film called Les Compères.
Regardless, it's a funny movie, thanks to the two pairs of guys: Billy Crystal/Robin Williams and Lowell
Ganz/Babaloo Mandel. Of the former, I wonder why they hadn't gotten together before to do something like it...so
much potential there given their partnership in Comic Relief USA that used to be on HBO almost annually back
then. Of the latter, they wrote a very good script called City Slickers
and scored another hit here; it's all about the dialogue with a lot of wit such as:
-"Lou Gehrig. Everybody knows Lou Gehrig. The baseball player. He died of Lou Gehrig's Disease."
-"Wow, what are the odds on that?"
"Do you know who I am? I am the cowboy with the Village People. Bob, if I don't get back there, it's just gonna
be Y-M-_-A!"
-"Seventeen years ago, your mother and I were pedaling through the wine country. It began to rain. lt was more
of a mist. It was so romantic."
-"I don't have time for the wine country saga now."
-"On my 10th birthday, my father takes me to the circus."
-"What a great story."
All in all, forget everybody else or even the plot in Fathers' Day; it's all about the conversations
between Billy Crystal and Robin Williams, and yes...that's Mel Gibson with these facial piercings.
