Oh, please. Christian Slater will always stand out, no matter what. Trying to portray him as a redneck is another unbelievable aspect of Desperate for Love. Rubbish script dooms it from start to finish. It's just talk, and I didn't understand the point of most dialogue. The editing is amateurish with some scenes being abruptly cut off when it's customary for them to linger for a few seconds longer.

Based on a true story? Sure, wake me up if it was ever worthy of national exposure. The case is so obscure that it's nearly impossible to find complete information. Steve Brown's murder was committed by Mike Miskelly over Tammy Glissen Nance on March 23, 1981, in Falkner, Mississippi. Afterwards, the girl kept badgering Mike daily about what really happened, finally causing him to confess one day, "Yes, Tammy. Sure, I did it. I killed him."

The cast is bad all around. This film gives away Christian Slater's acting formula for eternity. Every time he speaks, he has the tendency to put his head down before looking at a person intently in an awkward manner that's befitting of a shy teenager. Yet Christian Slater has that rare ability to make the material as fresh as possible.

All in all, Christian Slater or not, Desperate for Love is a waste of time.
