An ode to a dying genre, Unforgiven is poetic justice to dispel many of the misconceptions that numerous
Western movies had established for so long. What makes it so great is how realistic the ambience feels as the
mood rides heavily on William Munny's mystique. There's a touch of wry humor throughout, and the final climax
is a monster of a ride.
The definitive picture about female stalkers, Play Misty for Me, not the rip-off that's called
Fatal Attraction, is one of the finest thrillers made. A lot of guys can relate to Dave Garver when
dealing with an emotionally damaged female after a one-time fling. He's a hip deejay with an even-keeled
temperament but is pushed to his limits before he can't take it anymore and is forced to be harsh with Evelyn
who's dangerously psychotic.
At the beginning of Million Dollar Baby, I was thinking, "Gee, Clint Eastwood has gone mainstream." But
I was proven wrong. It's a very good, if emotionally draining, movie that's deserving of Best Picture Oscar.
This one has strong performances by Hilary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman, earning themselves Oscar
wins. It's been long overdue for the one-time Joe Clark who should've had a couple already.
Bronco Billy is one of the true greats. It's a Western film with a quirky romantic story. This is Clint
Eastwood at his best. He makes a lot of personal statements about life. The cast is great, even down to Sondra
Locke. What works is the chemistry among everybody.
Well, well...the vintage Dirty Harry is back. "Inspector, your methods are unconventional to say the least. Oh,
you get results. But often, your successes are more costly to this department in terms of expenses and physical
destruction than most other men's failures." Sudden Impact is a fantastic policier with a
legendary scene that ends with one of the most famous lines ever: "Go ahead. Make my day."
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Breezy is a wonderful romantic movie with great chemistry between William
Holden and Kay Lenz. As expected, it's impossible to go wrong with the former, and he's great in anything.
The latter is a natural and fun to watch. These two, despite their age difference, make a good couple.
The strange broken father-son relationship is primarily the reason why A Perfect World is a compelling film.
Clint Eastwood's direction pushes the boundaries further by revisiting some of the qualities that made
Bronco Billy a heartwarming movie. What helps a lot is he didn't take the Dirty Harry approach.
The Gauntlet is a through and through cult flick because it's different, tacky, and unusual. Sure, there
are several moments that defy logic, but by ignoring them, it's been an enjoyable ride from start to finish.
There are some scenes that are plain crazy including shooting so many bullets to destroy a house and also a
bus, Ben Shockley taking on the Hells Angels by himself, and the helicopter chasing a motorcycle.
Forest Whitaker is given a leading role for the first time in his career and makes the most of it. Not much is known
about Charlie Parker. In fact, there are no more than four written biographies about him. Having said that, I
suppose Clint Eastwood had to make do with the scant material on Charlie Parker who wasn't actually famous
nationwide during his time.
Thanks to Charlie Sheen and Marco RodrÃguez, this policier has a nice edge to it along with the
exciting stunts. The more attention they garner, the better the film is. Although Clint Eastwood is
the star of the show, somewhat playing Dirty Harry again, Charlie Sheen steals his thunder. The best part is
when Charlie Sheen told his partner, "Are you fucking crazy?" before driving the car out of the window.
