Caddyshack II isn't horrible as people say.
Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid (who could've been a good addition to the original) have all the funny parts. If
not for them, yeah...the remake would've sunk like a stone. The biggest issue is Jackie Mason. Back then, I
had never heard of him in any capacity. When it comes to pulling off jokes in the film, his batting average is
resoundingly .000 while Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight previously combined for something like .957.
Robert Stack is a weird choice in the place of Ted Knight. Dan Aykroyd is way worse than Bill Murray and plays
a stupid character. Yet the rest of the supporting cast isn't bad. Dyan Cannon is the biggest positive while
the material feels fresh, so I wasn't bored by any means.
Remember when Captain Tom Everett showed off his explosive golf balls to Chandler Young? What I don't get is
why it didn't initially detonate for Everett until landing on the watermelon but did so in front of Chandler
and his family when he tapped the golf ball.
All in all, not getting Rodney Dangerfield back is a fait accompli of Caddyshack II's failure.
