An Unfinished Life combines elements of The Horse Whisperer
and Enough.
It's a low-key drama picture that serves almost everybody well. When I say "almost," that's because I've left
out Jennifer Lopez. There's no cure for her diva-like attitude, and she's in Wyoming?!?!? Oh, Jennifer? Please
stop wearing so much makeup and dressing semi-provocatively...you just look ridiculous.
I have to give credit to Robert Redford for making the show better in the long run. He starts small, works his
way through, and ends up turning in a solid performance. No matter how much star power Robert Redford emits, he
knows how to be homely and relatable. That's something Jennifer Lopez couldn't figure
out. Morgan Freeman was already a master of it decades ago.
Speaking of Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman, I found it funny when the girl thought they were gay. That
never occurred to me, but due to the former massaging the latter's body and stabbing him in the ass with
morphine daily, I suppose she had a valid point. By the way, Morgan Freeman is only a year younger than Robert
Redford, it's amazing to see how far he, a virtual unknown in Brubaker,
had come to equal his co-star's stature, given the massive head start, after 25 years.
Remember Bart the Bear who appeared in The Great Outdoors,
The Bear, and The Edge? That's not him in
An Unfinished Life but an unrelated bear. He died in 2000, and Bart the Bear II continued his life's
work under the same trainer before passing away in 2021. Depending on the gender, bears tend to live between
20 and 30 years.
All in all, An Unfinished Life works for the most part, but Jennifer Lopez was obviously miscast.
