It's difficult to say A Chorus Line has been unfairly criticized.
The movie starts off well with a lot of dancing. After thirty minutes, there begins a round of informal
interviews. That's when the show lost a lot of energy by being so cheesy and boring to listen to. Then, it's
back to more dancing. To wrap it up, four men and four women are ultimately chosen for an upcoming Broadway
production.
The audition process is the most neat thing. When the final selections were made, it gave more meaning to what
had transpired. After the names were called out and the aspiring dancers stepped forward, they actually
weren't my choices, so I got surprised that they were meant to be eliminated.
The dancing is very good, and the singing connects to what's going on. I just wish the interviews were
shortened, but I understand the purpose of them. In a way, it feels like many were already seasoned pros and
had worked for Bob Fosse. One of them in the green spandex is his daughter. Regardless, just about all dancers
are unknown to the public, hence the harsh criticism of their acting performances.
All in all, although uneven, I prefer A Chorus Line over
All That Jazz.
